Siargao is getting a connectivity boost as Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) enhances its 5G network in key areas of the island ahead of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour event at Cloud 9 in General Luna.
The competition, running until November 10, marks the first time the Philippines is hosting a stop on the prestigious WSL Championship Tour. It is expected to bring international athletes, media, content creators, and surfing fans to the popular island destination.
As the event’s official telecommunications partner, Smart is expanding its existing 5G network capacity in key locations, including Cloud 9, Siargao Airport, and Siargao Seaport. The improvements also cover other strategic areas to help accommodate the increased demand for mobile connectivity.

According to Smart, the enhancements aim to provide reliable connectivity for visitors, residents, and local businesses throughout the competition.
“Siargao is an important tourism destination, and we are committed to supporting its continued growth through reliable connectivity,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, First Vice President and officer-in-charge of Smart.
For visitors, better mobile connectivity can make traveling around the island more convenient. From booking accommodations and transportation to making digital payments and sharing photos and videos online, a reliable mobile connection has become an important part of the travel experience.
Smart Unli 5G Starts at ₱90
Travelers attending the competition can also take advantage of select Smart Unli 5G offers, starting at ₱90 for three days. These packages include unlimited 5G data and non-stop 4G data.
Smart Postpaid subscribers can also use the Device Link feature on eligible plans to share their primary mobile number and plan with a compatible smartwatch. This allows them to make calls, send texts, and use mobile data even without their iPhone nearby.
Smart subscribers who purchase select offers at designated booths and partner stores in Siargao may also receive freebies.
The latest improvements build on Smart‘s ongoing network investments across the country. The company has also received recognition from Ookla for Best Mobile Latency and Best Mobile Video Experience.
With Siargao welcoming the international surfing community, Smart is looking to make mobile connectivity more accessible and reliable for both visitors and the island’s local communities.
