HONOR Philippines is set to launch the latest HONOR 400 5G this coming June 17, 2025. We are fortunate because they sent us one, and I’m gonna share my first impressions on this phone.

This new HONOR 400 5G is one of HONOR Philippines’ latest midrange phones coming this year, and it is claimed to have an incredible camera, AI features, display, battery, and more. You can pre-order it starting June 18-27.

We already unboxed this phone recently, you can find the video on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. With that, let’s dive into our initial thoughts on this phone.

HONOR 400 5G Back Design

Design and Build Quality

Let’s first talk about the appearance of the HONOR 400 5G. The first time I saw it after unboxing it, I was surprised by its design. I liked the new design of the camera island compared to its predecessor, the HONOR 200.

Its back has a matte finish, but it has a smooth texture, which is why my fingerprints and smudges are visible. Even so, I still like its design because it is very elegant looking. Our review unit features the Midnight Black colorway, but there’s also a Desert Gold colorway, which is its hero color.

The HONOR 400 5G also has flat sides that provide a good grip when holding it. Although I’m not usually a fan of flat-sided smartphones, the device’s compact size and lightweight design made it a non-issue for me. It only has 7.3mm thickness and weighs only 184g.

For buttons and ports, the power button and volume rockers are located on the right side, while the left side is empty. At the bottom, there are the dual nano SIM tray, microphone, USB-C port, and main stereo speaker, then we can see the secondary speaker, IR blaster, and another microphone at the top.

This phone is also durable since it has SGS 5-star drop resistance and IP66 water & dust resistance. Besides, it feels sturdy when you hold it, but we advise that you use its included jelly case for added protection.

Camera System

The HONOR 400 5G highlights its camera and the ability to enhance and generate with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Its camera system consists of a 200MP main camera and 12MP ultra-wide lens for the rear setup, while there’s a 50MP selfie camera at the front.

I am confused as to why they exclude a telephoto lens from this phone because the HONOR 200 has one. A telephoto lens is very helpful when you are always zooming in because it gives better image quality. However, this phone can do digital zoom, which we will be discussing more in our full review.

For photography, it uses an AI HONOR Image Engine that includes AI Super Zoom, AI Portrait Snap, HD Moving phone, Film Simulation, and Harcourt Portrait Mode.

Meanwhile, it also arrives with powerful AI editing features like AI Image to Video, AI Outpainting, AI Eraser, AI Erase passers-by, AI Remove Reflection, AI Face Tune, AI Upscale, AI Cutout, and Moving Photo Collage.

We already tried the new AI Image to Video feature and it is a game-changer since you don’t need to install third-party apps just to bring your photos to life.

HONOR 400 5G Display

Display

As I have mentioned above, the HONOR 400 5G has a compact size since it only features a 6.55-inch display, which is one of the smallest smartphone screens this year.

Its display features 1264 x 2736 resolution, 460PPI, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 5,000nits max brightness.

Aside from those, it also comes with eye comfort features like 3,840Hz risk-free PWM dimming, AI Defocus Eyecare, AI Circadian Night display, Full-scene Sunlight Display Enhancement Technology, Low Blue Light, Ultra Dark mode, and Motion Sickness Relief.

Those features are very helpful and essential since they minimize the damage to our eyes, and prevent eye fatigue that can cause headaches and more.

Performance

Under the hood, the HONOR 400 5G is equipped with the 4nm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset with Adreno 720 GPU. We don’t get any upgrade to its chipset because it is already used by its predecessor. Though this chipset is powerful and very optimized.

For memory, it comes with 12GB RAM plus 12GB HONOR RAM Turbo, while it has a large 512GB internal storage. Its storage is not upgradable since it does not have a microSD card slot, but 512GB is plenty enough to save our photos, videos, apps, and files.

HONOR 400 5G Software

Software

The HONOR 400 5G arrives with the latest MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15 out of the box. This is the smoothest and lightest operating system of HONOR that I have tried. It is very well-optimized and levels up my experience.

For software support, we don’t have any details yet, so let’s wait until this has been launched on June 17.

HONOR 400 5G Power Adapter and USB Cable

Battery

Even with its compact size and lightweight body, the HONOR 400 5G still manages to have a large 6,000mAh Silicon-carbon battery. Most of the phones that have this kind of battery capacity need to have a large display or a thick body, that’s why I commend HONOR for making it possible in this phone.

For charging, the HONOR 400 5G supports 80W Wired HONOR SuperCharge, which is a downgrade from the 100W on the HONOR 200. I’m a bit confused as to why HONOR didn’t use 100W charging, especially since this phone got an upgrade in battery capacity.
