Samsung just unveiled its latest devices, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. I got the chance to try it firsthand during a media preview, and here’s everything you need to know.
Design and Build Quality
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 has a noticeably upgraded design. It arrived with a thinner body compared to its predecessor.
This device now has 8.9mm thickness when folded and 4.2mm thickness when unfolded, just enough for the USB-C port. While it also got lighter since it only weighs 215g, even lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Even though it has a slimmer body, it still feels premium and robust in hand due to its Advanced Armor Aluminum frame. For added protection, its cover display features the Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, while the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is applied to the rear. It also has an IP48 dust and water resistance rating.
This flagship foldable smartphone is available in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, and Jetblack colorways. There’s also a Mint colorway that is only an online exclusive. I haven’t seen the Mint colorway, but it seems kinda cutesy.
For me, the Jetblack and Silver Shadow colorways are more professional-looking, while the Blue Shadow looks simple but loud.
Camera System
Samsung also upgraded its camera system, and though we are not allowed to get our captured photos, the image quality we got is on another level.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 features a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens for the rear camera setup. There’s also a 10MP selfie camera on the cover screen and a 10MP main camera at the front.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the first to feature a 200MP wide-angle camera in the Galaxy Z series. It is claimed to capture 4x more detail and a 44% brighter image.
This device uses Samsung’s next-generation ProVisual Engine, so it can process images faster, resulting in crisper, more vibrant, and more detailed photos and videos. It is also worth mentioning that its camera supports 10-bit HDR.
Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 also boasts a larger and tougher display. It now has a large 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen that supports QXGA+ resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Its cover screen has a large 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Both the main and cover screens support up to 2,600 nits max brightness, which allows you to see its display clearly under direct sunlight.
Aside from the Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection, its screen also has an Armor FlexHinge that reduces visible creasing and enhances durability by dispersing stress.
I have tried it folded and unfolded, and I really love the experience. Its screens are both high-quality and feel premium. They are both vibrant and enough for productivity.
Performance
Since this is a flagship foldable device, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 also features the flagship 3nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for Galaxy that provides a performance boost of 41% in NPU, 38% in CPU, and 26% in GPU compared to previous generations.
With that, you can expect powerful performance in this phone, both running heavy multitasking and AI features. Its chipset is accompanied by up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is very powerful, but I’m a little bit doubtful about its thermal performance since it is very thin. Of course, if you are in an air-conditioned room, it helps the phone to stay cool even when you are doing a heavy task.
In the media preview venue, it is very cold, so when we tried playing Genshin Impact, it did not heat up. By the way, since it has a massive main screen, playing games is more enjoyable.
Although some games did not support its aspect ratio, you will see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
Battery
Even though the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 has a thin body, it is still able to equip a 4,400mAh dual battery. That capacity looks like not enough, but it can still provide enough juice depending on your usage.

Like its predecessor, it also supports 25W wired charging that can charge the device to 50% in around 30 minutes. It also supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse charging.
Software
This new foldable device runs the latest One UI 8 based on Android 16, delivering the latest AI and Android experience out of the box. Its user interface feels very lightweight and optimized, especially since its screen has a 21:9 aspect ratio.
Moreover, it boasts the Gemini Live that is now enhanced with multimodal AI that easily understands what users see, say, and do without toggling back and forth between apps. It also has Galaxy AI optimized for large screens, so expect it can boost your productivity with its expansive foldable display.
