Mobile services provider Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) celebrated a major leap in connectivity by launching its first 5G Standalone (SA) network in Iloilo City.
The milestone event was marked by a jampacked free concert that drew over 5,200 attendees to the K-Town Festive Walk Parade last August 30.
Also known as True 5G, the Smart 5G SA network uses a dedicated 5G core network to deliver significantly lower latency, higher speeds, and increased capacity. The new technology also lays the foundation for more advanced capabilities and applications that will enrich the lives of customers.
Aside from launching its 5G SA network, Smart also rolled out major network upgrades to significantly expand 5G coverage and capacity across Iloilo City.

With the theme, “Sakses Ka Na!,” Smart’s free show treated subscribers with a showstopping lineup of music and entertainment by homegrown bands Kreonz and First Edition; rising Ilonggo beatmaker DJ Young; and hit rap artist Flow G.
The event was also graced by noontime show host Jackie Gonzaga and veteran Ilonggo host Jordan Toledo, who perked up the crowd with exciting games and prizes.
Throughout the concert, Smart showcased the numerous game-changing benefits of connecting to the Smart 5G SA network, including superfast uploads and downloads, seamless streaming, and lag-free gaming.
To make it easier for Ilonggos to upgrade to 5G and enjoy next-level digital experiences, Smart also rolled out special and exclusive offers for a wide range of 5G SA-ready devices from leading smartphone manufacturers, such as Honor, OPPO, Samsung, vivo, and ZTE.

“I always play Mobile Legends, and it’s a huge advantage to have a faster and more reliable connection powered by Smart 5G,” says gamer John Gallo, who attended the concert with his friends.
Another Smart subscriber who braved the rains to join the event was Anne, who shared that she spends most of her time watching YouTube and sharing Instagram updates. “With Smart 5G SA, I look forward to being able to stream videos without buffering as well as sharing updates instantly, wherever and whenever.”
Smart’s rollout of its 5G SA network in Iloilo City is the first in the country, and is part of PLDT Group’s nationwide effort to upgrade digital infrastructure, driving meaningful interactions, expanding access to information, and fostering digital inclusion among Filipinos.
Smart encourages Iloilo residents and tourists to upgrade and connect to Smart 5G SA and experience next-level connectivity in Iloilo City.
