Smart Communications has launched KiQ (pronounced “kick”), a new mobile brand that it says is the country’s first fully app-based mobile service. Unlike traditional telco offerings, KiQ focuses on letting users customize their mobile experience, a feature aimed particularly at Gen Z customers.
At the heart of KiQ is a platform that lets subscribers adjust their data allocation, decide whether to include calls and texts, and set how long their plan will be valid. All of these can be done through the KiQ app’s Slider Interface. Users can also choose their own mobile number.
According to Smart Chief Operating Officer Anastacio “Boy” R. Martirez, the service is designed for young Filipinos who want more control over their mobile usage. “With KiQ, we’re giving them a mobile experience that puts them in full control, no wasted data, no unnecessary add-ons, just total freedom and flexibility,” he said.

How to get started with KiQ
KiQ uses an eSIM system and is also Smart’s first service with QR-less eSIM activation. This means there is no need to scan a code from an email. Instead, subscribers can download and activate the eSIM directly from the app.
To get started with KiQ, just download the app, buy a PHP 99 eSIM, set up your plan, and pick a number. Your plan will be active right after eSIM registration.
Extra features for heavy users
KiQ also offers a prioritized network experience in busy areas like concerts, malls, schools, and city centers. This is meant to help maintain faster browsing and streaming speeds even during peak usage hours.
The launch comes as more mobile users look for digital-first and self-service solutions that can be set up without visiting a store.
I already explored its app and I can say that it looks promising. Its customizable data pack and validity are a win for those users like me who know their data usage.
KiQ is now available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
